At the end of September Kscope hosted a special night at the Union Chapel in London. Nosound, Engineers, Bruce from The Pineapple Thief and Anathema all performed stripped back sets in this breath-taking venue.

Live recordings of the artists involved along with interviews, recorded at sound-check, backstage and aftershow, are featured in the latest Kscope podcast which is now online.

The Union Chapel in north London; arguably London’s nicest venue. It’s a working church, built in the Victorian gothic revival style in the 1870s, it’s also a centre for the arts. It’s unspoiled inside, the audience sit in pews, it’s gorgeous. We invited four of the Kscope family to perform unique versions of some of their repertoire: you’ll hear tunes from Nosound, Engineers, Bruce Soord from The Pineapple Thief (with Alx Leeks) and Anathema. PLUS pre-show, backstage and aftershow interviews with all the artistes as we were (very kindly) allowed to go running around with a microphone.

On 14th October, Burning Shed, the online store / label that host and fulfil the Kscope store, will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a special event at the Leamington Spa Assembly, featuring Kscope artists No-Man and Bruce Soord & Jon Sykes (from The Pineapple Thief), as well as Theo Travis, Memories of Machines and The Resonance Association.

No-Man will play a 45 minute set, including some pieces never before performed live. This will be the band’s first performance since its successful 2008 Mixtaped shows.

The Pineapple Thief’s Bruce Soord & Jon Sykes will be performing as an acoustic duo.

The series of re-mastered reissues from The Pineapple Thief’s back catalogue continues in October with a new 2CD edition of Variations On A Dream.

Variations On A Dream was the band’s third studio album and was originally released in 2004 on the Cyclops label. Bruce has re-mixed and re-mastered the album for this Kscope edition. It is also presented in the same way as the originally limited double album release with the 8 Days album (limited to 1000 copies and never released separately) on CD2.

Variations On A Dream is now available to pre-order from the Kscope store. It follows the recent reissue of the band’s 2005 album, 10 Stories Down. A video of Bruce and Steve from TPT discussing 10 Stories Down is also now online.

Steve and Bruce were also filmed at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios while the band recorded a cover of Money by Pink Floyd for a recent Mojo covermount CD, watch the video below.

2010 was a landmark year for The Pineapple Thief. The band released their latest album, the critically acclaimed Someone Here Is Missing (‘extremely classy and frequently mesmerising’ Classic Rock), along with the Show A Little Love EP (‘it is here that the real magic of a band like TPT shines through’ Classic Rock Prog) and followed a string of festival performances with a European tour. At the start of the summer Someone Here is Missing, the new album from The Pineapple Thief was released on Kscope. Last year The Pineapple Thief launched Kscope with the critically acclaimed album, Tightly Unwound.
 
While the album was many people’s introduction to the band they have actually spent the past ten years quietly building up a dedicated fan base across the globe, selling over 25,000 records and nurturing their ‘bittersweet’ progressive sound.
 
This release is the first in a series of re-mastered reissues from the band’s back catalogue.
 
Little Man is the band’s fifth album and was originally released in 2006 on the Cyclops label.
 
Bruce Soord had these recollections about the album:

‘Little Man was one of the last releases we had on our previous label.  In fact, it was this album that got us noticed by and ultimately signed to Kscope, thanks in no small part to Steven Wilson putting in a good word for us.  Unfortunately, this album has been out of print for some time.


Little Man remains one of my favourite TPT releases.  I am grateful that I have had the chance to remix and re-master this album as I was never entirely happy with the original mixes.  Back in 2006, life was very different, as was the quality of my studio.  This new version has sorted out all my gripes.  We’ve taken all the original multitracks and remixed the songs from the ground up, but always maintaining the spirit of the originals.  It was painful to live with what I always felt was an unfinished mix.  It now sounds as I wanted it to be heard.’

The Pineapple Thief return with two four track EPs, entitled The Dawn Raids. The EPs will be available as a download and also as limited edition CDs. The CDs will be strictly limited to 2,000 copies of each and will be available only via the Kscope store. The band have recently completed a short tour of Holland. Details and pics of the tour are now online at the band’s blog. They are also traveling to Canada in May to play in Québec City.

New EPs planned for the new year
The two four track EPs, entitled The Dawn Raids will be available as a download and also as limited edition CDs. The CDs will be strictly limited to 2000 copies of each and will be available only via the Kscope store. The download will be available as an eight track bundle from all major download platforms from the end of January.

In addition to two versions of Tightly Wound the EPs feature several unreleased tracks. End Days is a specially written track to close Bruce’s writing for 2008.  Due to popular demand, there are two tracks from the previous digital only EP Too Far Gone and Second Chance.  Freefall is a previously unreleased track, but a live favourite, and The West Coast and February 17th are unreleased TU session tracks.

The Pineapple Thief TV also features footage of the band live at a recent London gig and the first instalment of the ‘Thief Workshops’ where TPT main man Bruce Soord talks us through how to play one of the band’s tracks. First up is Boxing Day taken from the album Little Man.

The first new release from Anathema for five years is now available on Kscope. Taken from the new semi-acoustic album, Hindsight, the two track download features the brand new track Unchained (Tales Of The Unexpected) alongside a new arrangement of Flying.

Tightly Unwound by Somerset proggers The Pineapple Thief has a visceral undercurrent that prevents singer/guitarist Bruce Soord’s penchant for sweet melancholia becoming soporific.

It also introduces an air of tension as you wait for the next instrumental outburst to puncture Soord’s gentle melodies and lyrical intrigue. And it’s heightened by the band’s keen sense of dynamic as the acoustic strumming suddenly switches to a harsh electric frenzy.

They’ve got control of the shades in between as well, courtesy of some deft syncopated riffs from the rhythm section while Soord keeps his eye on the ambience. Most of the songs are around five minutes and that suits them best – the couple that stretch over 10 slip into self-indulgence.

With over 25,000 records sold since their debut in 2000, this Somerset based five-piece are perfectly poised to break into new territory after signing a new deal with new label Kscope, a division of Snapper Music. The band’s ‘bitter sweet’ progressive sound has been nurtured over the past 7 years over 6 studio albums. Initially a solo studio project by singer/songwriter Bruce Soord, the band evolved onto the stage as the ever faithful international fan base demanded it.
