When Kscope asked us to come up with a video for The Pineapple Thief's 'Build a World' track, we listened to the record over and over again to try to get a sense of what the song was portraying. What came across to us was a strong storyline where a man was prepared to move heaven and earth for an undisclosed love. Perhaps unsurprisingly, The Pineapple Thief had summed up the scale themselves in the epic title 'Build a World' and this became the brief for the creation of the video.
At first, we thought making a video able to represent building a world might be impossible to pull off but also might come across as too sci-fi. However, by combining 3D modeling techniques with design elements featured on the 'All The Wars' record, we were able to put together an early storyboard that provided the basis for the final video.
This ambitious story board took us from nothing to a fully formed planet in just under 4 minutes! The created world passes though a cycle from a newly formed water covered planet through to a world where land rises from the seas. The video shifts through several key stages starting in space, before entering the new planet's atmosphere and even includes an underwater scene before returning to space to finish with a view of the completed world.
While technically very challenging and requiring huge computing power to render the final video, we are very pleased with the finished result. Hope you enjoy it!
The Pineapple Thief return with a new EP
In addition to the title track, taken from their acclaimed 2012 album All The Wars, the EP also features 3 brand new studio tracks along with a previously unreleased remix of Build A World.
All The Wars marked the latest step for the band who over the last few years have truly emerged onto a higher stage... bigger tours, triumphant festival slots, recording at Peter Gabriel’s Real World studios, artwork designed by award winning artists including Storm Thorgerson and Mark Mawson.
Ahead of the release of Build A World, The Pineapple Thief will be embarking on a European tour in March followed by four UK dates in May.
