The Pineapple Thief return with incredible new album 'It Leads to This' OUT NOW

Progressive Art Rock luminaries The Pineapple Thief return with new album ‘It Leads To This’ OUT NOW.

The Pineapple Thief revel in opposing forces. Muscle and fragility. Chaos and precision. Distorted introspection and warm, dreamlike expanse. Conceived in 1999 by Bruce Soord, the progressive quartet underwent a rebirth in 2017 with the arrival of Gavin Harrison (King Crimson, Porcupine Tree) on drums. Completed by bassist Jon Sykes and keyboardist Steve Kitch, they’ve honed a lean yet lush, quietly timeless sound that soars on It Leads To This.

The Pineapple Thief’s Bruce Soord on the album:

“We worked on these new songs for nearly three years. It was the most intense time I can remember within The Pineapple Thief. Personally I was being pushed well beyond my known limits, which is great from an artistic perspective but also very very challenging from a personal perspective.

Bruce continues:

“Conceptually ‘It Leads To This’ continues my desire to observe and (try to) make sense of life and the world around me. It’s all there in the lyrics.

The initial concept for the songs came together very quickly but the final lyrical and musical elements took a huge amount of work to piece together between the four of us, at least to a point where we were all satisfied.  After so long in the business, being 'satisfied' is constantly being pushed further, constantly redefined. That's the thing, we just kept pushing...”

To coincide with their formidable return, the band reveal a beautifully shot, compelling video for the first chapter of ‘It Leads To This’ in the form of ‘The Frost’. Shot in Iceland, the video was created by the band’s long-time collaborator Jeremy George.

It all feeds into It Leads To This. Comprising eight fat-free epics – all about five minutes long, mixing rock urgency with delicate atmospherics, pensive keys and captivating melodies – it finds Soord looking back and fearing for the world his children will inherit. His lyrics also drew from literature: accounts of Ancient Rome, John Williams’ classic Stoner and epistolary Augustus. All conveyed through Soord’s fragile yet penetrative tenor, nodding to storytellers like Nick Drake, Thom Yorke and Katatonia’s Jonas Renkse.

In a way, that’s The Pineapple Thief all over. Idiosyncratic but relatable. Devastating and life-affirming, in the same breath. Not married to a single genre, just melody served by tones and textures. Music that only the four of them could make.

It Leads To This is available in a multitude of formats that are as follows:

The Pineapple Thief announce New 8 Disc Deluxe Book-Set 'How Did We Find Our Way : 1999 - 2006' OUT  NOW

Kscope are proud to present, the first in a series of deluxe book-sets cataloguing The Pineapple Thief’s tremendous output. ‘How Did We Find Our Way : 1999 – 2006’ specifically focuses on the bands’ humble beginnings with Abducting The Unicorn in 1999 through to Little Man in 2006.

Regarding the deluxe book-set, Bruce Soord comments: “This box set covers the first 5 albums and all the associated bonus material from when I started The Pineapple Thief in 1999 through to 2006. Opening the old sessions was like opening a very large window into my former self. This box set has taken a strange emotional toll. Where did the drive, the dedication, the obsession come from? Did I take it too far? How on earth did my girlfriend stick around through it all to eventually become my wife?”

Soord continues: “Opening up the sessions I could remember how I would spend hours experimenting. I was like a child, everything seemed to be a new discovery. So here it is. The first epoch of The Pineapple Thief.”

All of the albums in ‘How Did We Find Our Way – 1999 – 2006’ were remixed from their original sessions, featuring 80 minutes of rare bonus material retrieved from Bruce’s archives. The total running time of the collection amounts to almost 8 and a half hours of music, which is offered in high resolution stereo, Dolby Atmos and 5.1 DTS-HD surround. Additionally, Steve Kitch has mastered all the stereo mixes.

In recalling the original stems to create new mixes, Bruce states “the Atmos mixes in this box set could be played in anything from a huge theatre with 100 speakers, in an enthusiasts home setup with perhaps 8 speakers through to something much more straightforward such as a soundbar or even streamed to headphones.” - a spectacular audio treat for fans.

At the centre of this package is a 64-page book featuring previously unseen, rare photographs from Bruce’s personal archive along with superb liner notes from Anil Prasad and newly conducted interviews with Bruce.

This beautiful, limited edition release will be a one-time pressing.

‘Give It Back’ OUT NOW

‘Give It Back’ is an album of newly recorded re-worked classic tracks from their impressive catalogue now featuring Gavin Harrison

The Pineapple Thief are one of the leading lights of Europe’s experimental rock domain, led by post-progressive mastermind Bruce Soord and reinforced by Gavin Harrison (King Crimson) on drums.

In the lead up to their extensive forthcoming 2022 European and US tour (23 Feb through to June) in support of their latest studio album ‘Versions Of The Truth’, The Pineapple Thief present 'Give It Back' which is due for release on 13th May through Kscope.

‘Give It Back’ is a new album featuring 12 new versions of earlier works including songs taken from the albums ‘Little Man’, ‘All The Wars’, ‘Tightly Unwound’. The band have completely re-recorded all of the tracks to complement brand new Gavin Harrison drum parts and new song arrangements. The result of this process is a unique release of reworked songs which showcases the evolution of The Pineapple Thief. Bruce Soord explains the idea behind the album “Gavin went through the entire TPT back catalogue and picked out some songs he felt we could revisit. As soon as I heard what Gavin was doing, it inspired me to completely rework the songs too. Gavin would suggest adding new parts, chopping things around, bringing in extra verses and I was completely open to all of it. I also ‘closed the story’ lyrically on a lot of the songs which I felt were left too open ended. It was a lot of fun to do, even if it felt a little strange at times going back in time.”

Gavin Harrison comments “When I first started working with The Pineapple Thief I had only played on the album “Your Wilderness”, so when the time came to play live, I obviously had to approach quite a few songs I didn’t know and hadn’t played before. Having spent some years in King Crimson (where this challenge was often presented to me), Robert Fripp suggested that you should approach every song as if it were new regardless of when it was written. So with the blessing of The Pineapple Thief, I developed my own take on some of the earlier material. As the tours went by, I got curious about their huge back catalogue and found myself listening through and applying the ‘old song/new song' process and imagining how I could (sometimes radically) rework them - initially just for the purposes of finding other songs to play live. However, Bruce encouraged me to go as far out as I wanted (including writing whole new sections) - after all, the original already existed - so why not breathe new life into these earlier songs? This isn’t a compilation album or any kind of selected ‘best of’ record - but rather the tunes that gave me inspiration to rearrange, rework, rewire.

The title track from the album is the first single to be released on 22nd February. Bruce  explains“One of the first songs that Gavin picked out from the back catalogue was Give it Back. We completely re-recorded and re-worked the entire piece. It feels like a completely new song and it's already part of our live set.

The ‘Give It Back’ album artwork has been created by Carl Glover.

‘Give It Back’ is out now as a 2 disc CD & Blu-ray (Audio - Hi-res Stereo/DTS-HD MA 5.1/Dolby Atmos), CD, black vinyl LP and digitally.

'Nothing But The Truth' the band's mesmerising live performance film

The Pineapple Thief have released the multi format release of Nothing But The Truth on Kscope on 22nd October (12th November in North America).

Following the release of their latest studio album Versions Of The Truth in September 2020, the band were preparing to start the album’s live campaign, when like so many other artists their plans were put on hold by the continuing global pandemic.

Eager to still perform and connect with their fans across the globe, in April 2021, The Pineapple Thief filmed an extravagant on demand live event entitled Nothing But The Truth directed by band videographer George Laycock (Blacktide Phonic/Visual).

Bruce Soord explains “The Pineapple Thief is equally about the studio and the stage, so it was hugely disappointing that we were unable to tour, especially as we were excited to be able to perform the new album “Versions Of The Truth” live for everyone. Being able to do this film, especially under the circumstances, was invaluable. It was such an alien time and an alien thing to do. Yes, we had all performed in front of cameras before, but this was different.  We were playing a brand-new set, one time only, to stream to every corner of the globe, standing in a circle on our little islands with cameras everywhere. The pressure was on. We simply had to nail it!

The Pineapple Thief to release The Soord Sessions Volumes 1-4

THE COMPLETE SESSIONS FROM FRONTMAN BRUCE SOORDS ACOUSTIC LIVE PERFORMANCES STREAMED DURING LOCKDOWN

THE DELUXE 4 DISC HARDBACK BOOK EDITION IS OUT NOW

Over the last half-decade, The Pineapple Thief, led by Bruce Soord and bolstered by the involvement of master drummer Gavin Harrison, has rapidly ascended to the upper echelons of Europe’s Alternative Rock scene.

To acclaim from the worldwide media and fans, September 2020 saw the release of Versions Of The Truth, the latest instalment in the band’s discography. This was due to be followed, almost immediately, by an extensive live campaign which sadly due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation has been postponed until 2021.

Bruce Soord, not wanting to disappoint fans, announced he would perform a solo acoustic live streamed performance of songs from across The Pineapple Thief’s illustrious catalogue. Due to the success of the initial performance, 1 session turned into 4 across the summer.

Bruce Soord explains “Back in the spring of 2020 I decided to perform a live acoustic show from my attic studio. I figured I could set up something with a bit more production than just a face peering down a mobile phone. I created a little haven of guitars, pedals, loopers, microphones and webcams and mixed them all together ready to send out to the world.”

'Versions of the Truth' is OUT NOW!

Throughout the album, The Pineapple Thief explore vast swathes of sonic territory, with minimalist passages building to explosive crescendos and instrumentals which blend disparate elements into flowing expressionism to create an immersive dichotomy.

It’s an album that holds up a mirror to the chaos and conflict of 21st-century life and tries to make sense of the distorted reflections that gaze back at it. A blurring between the real and the perceived, between meaning and intent. The title says it all: this is the soundtrack for a post-truth world.

When you have conflict, the truth gets bent and kicked around, the facts get changed,” says Soord. “That’s why people argue or get divorced or fight – because nobody can agree on what the truth is. That idea of different versions of the truth especially applies to the world we’re living in right now. All these things are happening where nobody has any idea of what the real truth of anything is because everything is so distorted.”

Revealing their first single to be “Demons”, a track that combines sweeping soundscapes with infectiously pensive choruses, it is a swelling and expansive journey from subtle ambience to immersive climaxes, underscored by exotic orchestral flourishes and carried by emotive vocals.
